There are two snook harvest seasons closing in December. The first snook closure starts on December 1 in all of Florida?s Gulf of Mexico, Everglades National Park and Monroe County coastal and inland waters. The harvest season for snook will remain closed until March 1 in these areas.

To maintain high quality catfish fishing in Alabama, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources? Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division has enacted a new regulation. Only one catfish longer than 34 inches may be harvested each day by an angler. Live blue catfish or flathead catfish longer than 34 inches cannot be transported out of Alabama without approval in writing from the Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resources. This regulation only affects catfish 34 inches or longer.

CALHOUN, GEORGIA – The once eliminated, prehistoric-looking lake sturgeon is making a return to Georgia’s waters. Decades have passed since these fish, described by some as “shark-like” and “weird,” inhabited their native waters in the Coosa River Basin and Etowah River. Thanks to recent stocking efforts, the species now has a chance to reestablish a population and one day thrive again in these Georgia rivers.

Alexandria, VA – November 21, 2008 – The Future Fisherman Foundation’s board of directors is currently seeking alternative funding and donations to avoid suspending foundation operations. The foundation’s board met on November 18 to discuss funding concerns after learning a grant which provides significant funding for the foundation was no longer available for the 2009 fiscal year. If substantive and sustaining funding sources for its programs cannot be found, the foundation board will be forced to suspend the foundations operations.
