OHIO WANTS ANGLERS TO PARTICIPATE IN STUDY

COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife invites anglers to visit www.ohiodnr.com/creel to take a new online angler survey.

The online survey consists of 19 questions asking anglers to provide feedback on a variety of topics, including where they fish and the methods they use; what species they fish for; effects the economy is having on fishing habits; and length and rod limit regulations. Anglers will also be given the opportunity to provide general comments about fishing in Ohio.

HAZARDOUS COLUMBIA RIVER ACCESS CLOSED INDEFINITELY

EPHRATA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has closed one of its Columbia River access sites in the northcentral region because it is unsafe for launching trailered boats.

The Sunland Estates water access site, about eight miles west of George on the Grant County side of the Columbia River, is closed indefinitely while launch repair or replacement is assessed and project funding is sought.

FREE FESTIVAL CELEBRATES COLUMBIA RIVER STURGEON

VANCOUVER, Washington – The Columbia River ecosystem and its primitive inhabitant, the sturgeon, will be honored at the 13th annual Sturgeon Festival.

The free, two-day event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31 at the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 S.E. Columbia Way in Vancouver. The festival is hosted by the City of Vancouver, with participation by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

WESTERN KENTUCKY SCHOOLS THE ANGLING COMPETITION

Camden, Tennessee – 80 collegiate anglers representing 21 universities throughout the southeast met at Birdsong Resort in Camden, Tennessee on Saturday, May 16 to contest the Tennessee River Rumble on Kentucky Lake. This event was the final of 5 regional events sanctioned by the Association of Collegiate Anglers leading up to the 2009 BoatU.S. Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship (CBFC) scheduled for May 25 – 29 at Lake Lewisville, Texas. Careco Multimedia’s camera teams were on hand to capture the action. Coverage of the regional events and the CBFC will be featured on the collegiate bass fishing championship television series that will air on the Versus network Saturday mornings this fall.

Ohio Lake Erie Commission to Hold Quarterly Meeting

TOLEDO, OH – The Ohio Lake Erie Commission (OLEC) will hold its quarterly meeting on June 3 at 10 a.m. at the Leonard Krieger Canalway Center in Cuyahoga Heights, Ohio.

During the meeting, the Rocky River Watershed Balanced Growth Plan will be presented by representatives from the Medina County Soil & Water Conservation District for endorsement by the Commission. This will be the second Balanced Growth Pilot Project to be brought before the Commission that demonstrates how Balanced Growth practices and planning approaches can improve watersheds and water quality throughout the Lake Erie basin. The Balanced Growth Program is a voluntary, community-based effort for promoting balanced growth and conservation development. Funding for the pilot projects has been provided by the Ohio Water Development Authority and administered by the OLEC.
