Florida’s Shoreline Fishing License Requirement Starts August 1

Time’s up. Florida’s new shoreline fishing license requirement takes effect August 1, so resident anglers who fish for saltwater species from shore or a structure affixed to shore must have a $9 shoreline fishing license or a $17 regular saltwater fishing license.

Rehabilitation of the Raquette River Boat Launch will begin this fall, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Regional Director Betsy Lowe announced today. The boat launch — often referred to as “The Crusher” due to its proximity to a former gravel crushing operation — is located east of the Village of Tupper Lake on State Routes 3 & 30 in the Town of Harrietstown, Franklin County.

Maryland’s Diamond Jim Still On the Loose, Now Worth $25,000

Annapolis, MD – John Sparrow from Waldorf, Maryland caught the second tagged striped bass in the 2009 Maryland Fishing Challenge, which turned out to be a Diamond Jim imposter worth $500. Sparrow was fishing in Cove Point earlier this month when he hooked the prized rockfish, and at a ceremony in Solomons, Maryland yesterday opened the matching envelope pronouncing it an impostor.

PITTSBURGH – Team Kellogg’s pro Dave Lefebre of Union City, Pennsylvania, weighed in a five-bass limit that weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces during the first day of competition at the $2 million Forrest Wood Cup presented by BP and Castrol – the World Championship of Bass Fishing – on the Three Rivers in Pittsburgh and ended the day with a slim one-ounce lead. The Forrest Wood Cup presented is the richest bass fishing tournament in the world and features a $1 million first-place cash award.

New sportfish comes to Huntington North

Huntington — Huntington North Reservoir received a new sportfish recently. On July 9, Division of Wildlife Resources hatchery workers flushed 10,000 wriggling wipers out of a hatchery truck and into its waters.
