New York offers proposed fishing regulation changes

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Pete Grannis today announced proposed changes to the current freshwater fishing regulations to better enhance fishing opportunities and protect the State’s freshwater fisheries resources. DEC will be accepting public comments on the proposals until November 2, 2009.

San Jose State leads FLW College Fishing tourney

STOCKTON, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2009) – The San Jose State University team of Glen Wyatt of Vallejo, Calif., and Eric Andersen of San Jose, Calif., added to their lead at the National Guard FLW College Fishing Western Division Regional event on the California Delta Sunday with five bass weighing 11 pounds, 4 ounces for a two-day total of 11 bass weighing 26-1.

VanDam surges to win fifth Bassmaster AOY title

MONTGOMERY, Ala.. – Living up to his storied reputation, Kevin VanDam of Kalamazoo, Mich., closed strong on the Alabama River at the Bassmaster Elite Series Postseason, scoring victory at the Evan Williams Bourbon Trophy Triumph, which earned him enough points in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings to overtake California’s Skeet Reese.

Hedquist wins Walmart FLW Walleye League title

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (Sept. 19, 2009) – Boater Kirt Hedquist of Lakeville, Minn., caught 14 walleyes weighing 16 pounds, 8 ounces during three days of competition in the Walmart FLW Walleye League Finals on Lake Wissota in Chippewa Falls, Wis., to secure a $53,000 victory Saturday by 10 ounces over his closest competitor. Hedquist earned a Ranger 621 powered by an Evinrude or Yamaha outboard.

Tom Mann Jr. claims top individual FLW Series award

appling, ga. (Sept. 19, 2009) – Tom Mann, Jr. of Buford, Ga., claimed the Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year title Saturday at the conclusion of the Walmart FLW BP Eastern Series event presented by Folgers on Clarks Hill Lake. The Angler of the Year title annually goes to the FLW BP Eastern Series Pro Division angler who has the highest year-end point total in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season. Mann, Jr. secured the crown on Clarks Hill Lake with 20 bass weighing 51 pounds, 2 ounces at what was the final FLW Series qualifying event of the season in a race that was won by a mere one point and went down to the last day of the regular season.

New partnership aims to restore vandalized American Lake boat launch

OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and Eyes in the Woods, a non-profit volunteer organization, have joined forces with approximately 25 members of a newly formed citizen’s group to improve public safety and reduce vandalism at the American Lake public boat launch.
